Maximising Potential: Expert Tips for Planning Your Home Renovation

Once upon a time there was a process that any prospective renovator used to follow.  They followed the same process as those before them had.  This was because nobody ever stopped to say ‘there has to be a better way’.  That is until recent years.

The old process went something like this:

  1. Person decides they want to build or renovate

  2. They engage a draftsperson, architect or building designer to draw their plans

  3. They obtain their approvals, engage third party consultants and tender to builders

  4. They review the 3 (because this seems like a good number) builders quotes and choose the one in the middle (because you don’t want to go for the cheapest or the most expensive)

  5. They complete their build with a high probability of it running over their assumed budget along with a multitude of potential other problems along the way.

It should be noted that what this step by step process doesn’t show is the scenario where the builders quotes come in well over the assumed budget and it’s back to have plans redesigned or even worse, never going ahead with the project all together. That’s for another blog post!

Thankfully in recent times there has been a big shift within the industry.  Builders and designers alike have come to realise that this scenario rarely works well for the client, or the builder and that there had to be a better way.

At Sunday Homes, we are huge advocates of this forward way of thinking.  A way in which all parties come together to collaborate from day one.  Because collaboration results in project success for all. And isn’t this the best possible outcome?

This new direction can’t be put into a bullet point list, because it’s not linear.  It’s more circular and involves multiple back and forth between the project team.  This team is made up of a group of experts in their field who bounce ideas around between each other and work together to come up with the best possible outcomes.  This team foresee and plan for potential problems so that they can be mitigated in advance, they establish realistic budget expectations and more than anything they make you feel at ease about the whole process.  They take away the ‘unknown’ allowing you the opportunity to enjoy your build journey – because it should be enjoyable!

Some of our favourite collaborators include Action Plans for building designs and approvals.

We offer a building service, whilst working alongside trusted builders such as Jamie at Stoney Creek Constructions, BlueSky Building Designs and NSync Constructions.

As for specialist trades and suppliers that we are lucky to work alongside, we love Luke at Luxe Joinery, our other trades are so popular they don’t need a website…but should out to Grant at GQ Plumbing and Ben at Monroe Painting!

Forget the clunky design, tender, build process and set your project up for success and embrace this collaborative approach.

When you form your dream team and have them all working together towards the same goal from day one, this is where the magic happens!
